Swedish Meatballs
Swedish Meatballs made with ground beef and a creamy gravy sauce over egg noodles.
Ingredients
Meatballs
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 small onion (diced small)
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 2 slices of bread
- 1/4 cup milk
Gravy
- 3 tblsp butter (salted)
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 4 cups chicken broth (beef or vegetable broth works too)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp dried parsley flakes
- 1/2 cup sour cream
Noodles
- 1 large bag of wide egg noodles
Instructions
Meatballs
- Cut the two slices of bread into small cubes. Place in a small bowl with the milk.
- In a large stand mixer (or mix by hand in a large bowl), mix together the diced onion, eggs, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, allspice, and the milk soaked bread.
- Then add in the beef and mixed until just combined. Do not over mix or the meat will become tough.
- Line a large cooking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll the meat mixture into balls and place on the cooking sheet.
- Cook in oven for 30 minutes at 400 degrees.
The Gravy
- Heat a large frying pan and add the butter.
- Once the butter is melted, sprinkle in the flour and whisk until combined
- Pour in the beef broth, salt, and pepper and keep whisking until the flour and broth are combined. (It will be chunky at first, but it will blend and thicken as it all heats up)
- Once the gravy is thickened, whisk in the sour cream until it is combined. Then turn off the heat.
- Once the meatballs are done, place them in the gravy pan. Serve the meatballs and gravy over the egg noodles.
- Enjoy!
Noodles
- Cook the egg noodles according to package instructions.
