Seasoned ground beef steak patties with a delicious brown gravy and caramelized onions.

Ingredients

FOR THE STEAKS
  • 1.5 lb Ground Beef
  • 2 Tbsp Minced onion (I took a quarter of an onion and shredded it through a cheese grater.
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp Italian Seasoning
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Dry Ground Mustard
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 1/2 cup Bread Crumbs
  • 2 Tbsp Cooking Oil for the pan (I use grapeseed oil which is good for high heat cooking)
FOR THE GRAVY
  • 2 Tbsp Butter
  • 1 small Onion (chopped into long pieces)
  • 2.5 cups Beef Broth
  • 2-3 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Pepper
CORNSTARCH SLURRY
  • 2 Tbsp Cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp Cold water

Method

FOR THE STEAKS
  1. In a large mixing bowl combine all the ingredients for the steaks and mix together by hand. Do not over mix or it will make the meat tough.
  2. Then form into patties and set aside.
  3. Heat the oil in a large frying pan, and cook the patties 5-8 minutes each side or until they are no longer pink.
  4. Once they are done, remove the patties to a plate and cover with foil to keep warm.
FOR THE GRAVY
  1. Put the butter in the pan and scrape up anything stuck to the pan as it melts.
  2. Once melted, add in the chopped onion and cook them until translucent or soft.
  3. Add in the beef broth, Worcestershire Sauce, Ketchup, Salt, and Pepper.
  4. Bring to a simmer.
  5. In a separate small bowl, mix together the cornstarch slurry until smooth.
  6. Pour it into the gravy while whisking continuously. Turn off the heat as soon as it thickens.
  7. Add the patties back into the gravy. Serve with mashed potatoes and green beans. Enjoy!
